PhD position summary/title: PhD student position in Service Innovation Management

We are looking to recruit a PhD student within the field of service innovation management. Many traditionally product-focused companies are innovating by integrating services to their physical products as a competitive strategy, known as servitization. Servitization is essentially about competing through value propositions that integrate services with product offerings. Servitization is also described as the process of transforming the company from a product centric to a service logic. However, companies are facing big challenges in this servitization transformation. This both regarding organizational structure and processes, as well as their strategy processes. The transition towards developing combined product-service innovations often takes significantly longer time than expected, and the proportion of the company’s sales that comes from different types of services often does not grow as fast as expected. In the context of service development and offering the need for personal interaction and adjustment of the service according to individual customers’ specific need is especially important.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in compilation of quantum algorithms to quantum hardware

We are looking for a PhD student to optimize compilation of programs that are to be run on our quantum computers. Improving the compilation of abstract quantum algorithms into hardware-specific instructions is crucial to make quantum computers useful. The work in this project is to explore and improve methods to (1) map logical qubits in a hardware-agnostic quantum algorithm to physical qubits in specific quantum-computing hardware, (2) insert a minimum number of extra operations to connect qubits that need to interact but are not nearest neighbours after the initial mapping, and (3) compress the resulting quantum circuit as much as possible. One tool for tackling all these problems is machine learning.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student position in Quantum sensing and foundations with levitated superconducting particles

The goal of the PhD project is to explore the generation of quantum states, in particular squeezed states, in the center-of-mass motion of levitated particles. These particles can weigh between nanogram and microgram. A fascinating and exciting part of the project will be to study potential mass-limits for generating these quantum states. Such limits can be given by various known sources of decoherence, but also by unconventional ones. The project will be based on the experimental platform of magnetic levitation of superconducting microparticles. Quantum states of the particle motion can be generated, when the motion is coupled to superconducting circuits, such as flux-tunable microwave resonators or superconducting qubits. The overall vision of the project is to develop novel quantum sensing technologies that explicitly make use of massive quantum sensors.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student position in E-Model: modelling e-scooters dynamics and e-scooterist behaviour

How can we make mircromobility safe? Well, first we need to understand how vehicles and user behave in traffic. One way we can achieve this understanding is by modeling the dynamics of micromobility vehicles (you will focus on e-scooters) and how the user acts as a controller. As a PhD student in this project, you will work with experimental data to create models, and naturalistic data to verify the models. Your work will contribute to several sustainable development goals, e.g., 3.6 and 11.2. We are looking for a creative candidate who wants to address a timely and concrete issue in transportation and leverage a collaborative environment to increase our understanding of traffic safety.

PhD position summary/title: PhD position in models for transport of plastics in marine environments

The Department of Mechanics and Maritime Science at Chalmers University is offering a doctoral position in a project related to modelling the transport of plastic particles in the sea. The project is highly interdisciplinary and consists of a collaboration between three divisions at the Department: Fluid Dynamics, Maritime Studies and Marine Technology. The long-term aim of the project is to address the challenge of developing novel Lagrangian numerical models to track the dynamics of plastic particles in the ocean. The project also aims to investigate the release and the dynamics of plastic particles from ship antifouling paintings, an underestimated source of microplastics that preferentially accumulates in the ship wakes, a kind of ship “skid marks” analogous to road tire wears. To summarize, the project will address the formulation of novel numerical models to track the dynamics of plastic particles in a turbulent marine environment by considering different processes that influence the plastic trajectories: particle shapes and properties, biofouling, water density stratification and ship wake induced mixing.

Chalmers University of Technology  is a Swedish university located in Gothenburg that focuses on research and education in technology, natural sciences, architecture, mathematics, maritime and other management areas.
The university was founded in 1829 following a donation by William Chalmers, a director of the Swedish East India Company. He donated part of his fortune for the establishment of an “industrial school”. Chalmers was run as a private institution until 1937, when the institute became a state-owned university. In 1994, the school was incorporated as an aktiebolag under the control of the Swedish Government, the faculty and the Student Union. Chalmers is one of only three universities in Sweden which are named after a person, the other two being Karolinska Institutet and Linnaeus University.
