(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Precision Measurements – Physics and Astronomy – 99520

The Institute of Gravitational Wave Astronomy at the University of Birmingham in collaboration with Strathclyde University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology invites applications for a 2- year Postdoctoral Prize Fellowship in Precision Measurements. The aim of the project is to build an internationally-leading coating centre.

Optical cavities are in the core of many precision instruments, such as optical atomic clocks, gravitational-wave detectors, optical rotation sensors, and quantum opto-mechanical setups. In order to advance precision measurements, we are building a facility to measure properties of the key components of optical resonators: optical coatings. Our measurement procedure is a crucial step in manufacturing high-quality coatings because we need to experimentally explore the whole parameter space of coating production, such as deposition rate, doping materials, and annealing
