(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Research Fellow in Biophysics

We are currently seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join the University of Surrey to join Dr Wooli Bae’s research group for a 2.5-year project funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The project aims to build a novel protocell system using the state-of-art DNA and RNA nanotechnology. The protocell system will have unique ability to communicate with external environment and implement higher level functions such as homeostasis and cell memory. This system will shed light on biology’s fundamental principles by mimicking emergent behaviours, including communication and information processing. It will also be a unique engineering platform for biomedical purposes such as targeted or environment-specific drug-delivery applications.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Media & Communications

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in hand in Media and Communications, or closely related areas, with evidenced expertise in researching media and technology users and audiences. Methodological expertise will ideally include a variety of audience and user research methods, experience of data collection and analyses, and experience of news and/or audience research. The fellow will also have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The fellow should have familiarity with data analyses software packages for analysis of data.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow

The Research Fellow will carry out research for the project that is finding out what sustainable lifestyle will look like in 2050. You will focus predominantly on combine subjective wellbeing, environmental impact, and time use data to develop a database for a variety of countries, showing how characteristics have changed over time. You will extrapolate subjective wellbeing and environmental impacts for different scenarios of time use and production intensities. Your work will also include literature reviews, data analysis, writing reports, supporting project management, as well as liaising with team members (external and internal). Travel may be required within the UK and EU.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Electronic Systems for Independent Living

We seek a Research Fellow in Sensor Systems for Independent Living, beginning 1 July 2023 or soon after, for a maximum of 15 months. The Fellow will take a leading role in the design, realization and testing of novel presence, position and fall detection sensor arrays as part of the Multifunctional Flooring: Design for Independent Living research project. The work, overseen by Dr Radu Sporea will be carried out at the Advanced Technology Institute, within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, University of Surrey and benefit from frequent interactions with industrial experts in the form of advisory meetings from technical project partners.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant for Long Term Video Understanding

We seek a Research Assistant for Long Term Video Understanding, beginning 1st August 2023, for a maximum of 6 months. The Assistant will lead in designing, realising, and testing an efficient system for content retrieval that can handle multi-modal audio, image, text, and video data, especially for footage longer than 10 seconds. The project is part of the ELMER: Efficient Long-term Multi-modal vidEo Retrieval project, funded by AI4Media. The work, overseen by Dr Andrew Gilbert, will be carried out at the Centre for Creative Arts and Technologies within the Department of Music and Media, University of Surrey. You will benefit from frequent interactions with industrial experts through advisory meetings with technical project partners.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Supercapacitor development

The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) confirms the high quality of research being produced by the Department of Chemistry. Our core research is seminal in the many multidisciplinary programmes which are a major emphasis at Surrey, in areas such as materials chemistry and energy, medicinal chemistry and molecular engineering. (07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in RNA Biology / Virology

The project will focus on the role of RNA modifications such as m6A in coronavirus infections, funded by the Academy of Medical Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to engage with an emerging field in the context of human disease and with translational potential. The project will combine a range of sophisticated RNA approaches and established virology techniques to establish the molecular mechanisms underpinning the importance of m6A, including investigation of viral RNA decay and translation. It will involve work with common cold-causing coronaviruses and work at high-containment (CL3) with SARS-CoV-2. As we are a new research team with a collaborative attitude there will also be opportunities to gain experience with other virus infections (eg HSV-1, HCMV) and ongoing lab projects.
