(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate in Structural Molecular Biology

The project is focused on the molecular mechanism of DNA replication initiation in bacteria. Together with the laboratory of Prof. Heath Murray at Newcastle University, this work is aimed at unravelling the sequence of events that lead to helicase loading during initiation and restart. This structural biology project will take advantage of the expertise in the lab working with nucleoprotein complexes aided by dedicated cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography facilities. The group has routine access to the Titan Krios microscopes at LonCEM and eBIC and an in-house computing infrastructure for data processing.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant

A Postdoctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) position is available at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in Prof Maurice Elphick’s group to work on “Discovering missing links in neuropeptide evolution and function”, a collaborative project with Prof. Paola Oliveri (UCL) and Dr. Arianna Fornili (QMUL) funded by the BBSRC. The QMUL-based PDRA will primarily focus on the first aim of the project – to discover missing links in the evolution of neuropeptide signalling systems by computational and experimental identification of neuropeptide ligands for orphan neuropeptide-type G-protein coupled receptors in an echinoderm – the starfish Asterias rubens. The QMUL-based PDRA will also work collaboratively with a UCL-based PDRA, who will primarily focus on the second aim of the project – to investigate the expression and functions of neuropeptide signalling systems in sea urchin and starfish larvae.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant

We invite applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Assistant in the School of Mathematical Sciences. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with Dr Alex Fink on the project “Extensions of matroid Hodge theory”, funded by EPSRC. A recent breakthrough, for which June Huh won a 2022 Fields Medal, was to prove that the Chow ring of any matroid satisfies the Kähler package even when there is no associated Kähler manifold. Objectives of this project include the extension of this theory to similar objects, in particular further flag varieties and Coxeter types, and oriented matroids; developing Berget, Eur, Spink and Tseng’s theory of matroid tautological bundles, and proving inequalities on their Chern classes; and to explore applications to conjectures concerning invariants so far inaccessible, like Speyer’s g-invariant.
