(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Research Fellow in Machine Learning Ref 9304

We are looking for a post-doctoral research fellow with a strong machine learning background to work with Profs Luc Berthouze and George Parisis on the recently EPSRC-funded project “Rethinking large-scale network management through the lens of neuroscience”. The project is one of 77 adventurous new projects funded by the EPSRC under the New Horizons initiative to explore high-risk speculative research ideas across Engineering and ICT. Our project aims to transform the way ICT networks are being conceptualised for management, by developing a data-driven characterisation of emerging dependencies between ICT components inspired by recent neuroscientific paradigms used to study the brain and allowing to capture and act upon the functional impact of complex and changing interactions across layers and processes.

Deadline : 28 November 2022

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow in Electronic Textiles Ref 8363

The Sensor Technology Research Centre at the University of Sussex is looking for a researcher to collaborate with a local company, and to work on a research-intensive industry funded project on the development of novel tools for shape sensing. This project aims to develop a textile sleeve with an integrated array of stretchable sensors. The goal is to dynamically quantify the shape of the body parts covered with the textile sleeve, and hence to offer a digital alternative to traditional plaster cast molds. Your role will be to support the creation of arrays from deformable strain sensors, and to integrate these senor arrays into flexible and stretchable textile structures, as well as to characterize the resulting smart textiles. In addition, an electrical interface to connect the electronic textile to the outside world, e.g. a PC or a smartphone has to be developed.

Deadline : 15 November 2022

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Extra-galactic Astrophysics Ref 9941

The University of Sussex invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in extra-galactic astrophysics. You will explore the evolving demographics of galaxies and their star formation.   You will use the latest data from many of the deepest extragalactic surveys including, in the very near future, the COSMOS-Web observations with the James Webb Space Telescope. One distinctive focus will be to include the lower resolution far infrared data from, in particular, the Herschel surveys, using the Sussex hierarchical modelling tool XID+. You will work with multi-wavelength survey data to understand the galaxy populations and their evolution. Other premium data sets you’ll have access to include surveys with the SKA pathfinders LOFAR and MeerKAT.

Deadline : 26 October 2022

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Ref: 9894

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct research on environmentally sustainable best practices for human brain imaging and data pipelines (MRI and related brain scanning techniques). The successful candidate will be part of Charlotte Rae’s Adaptive Behavioural Control Lab at the University of Sussex. The post-holder will also work closely with Raghavendra Selvan (University of Copenhagen) and Gabrielle Samuel (King’s College London). The MRC-funded project aims to assess the ways in which human brain imaging analysis (in particular, MRI scans) generates a carbon footprint, and to develop strategies and tools to minimise this. Candidates with experience in MRI brain scan analysis techniques and software (e.g. FSL, SPM), big neuroimaging datasets (e.g. Human Connectome Project, UK Biobank), and scientific computing, are particularly encouraged to apply.

Deadline : 26 October 2022.
