PhD position summary/title: PhD i Technology and Social Change
Research related to the announced PhD position will be carried out within the Biogas Solutions Research Centre (BSRC), which is a five-year research programme aiming to develop a strong national competence base for the research and development of biogas solutions. The PhD project will study the social, political and technological development of biogas in Sweden and Europe with a focus on actor-driven institutionalization processes and concepts of institutional work or institutional entrepreneurs at different governance levels and within new application fields of biogas. Research will be carried out in close collaboration with representatives of public authorities, companies and branch organisations. .

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in visualization and media technology with a focus on immersive visualization.
The goal of this project (and this employment) is to develop new methods for the synthesis of realistic images of real urban environments. We want to bridge the gap between large-scale structures and details up close. Examples are image data captured by municipalities using aerial and drone photogrammetry and photographs with a high level of detail of facades on buildings and urban environments.

The PhD students in Ageing and Social Change at ASC will work in the international comparative research programme ‘EIWO – Exclusion and Inequality In Late Working Life: Evidence for policy innovation towards inclusive extended work and sustainable working conditions in Sweden and Europe’. PhD students in this programme will benefit from international cooperation with scientific partners and policy stakeholders as well as from active participation in workshops and conferences over the period of their involvement. PhD position summary/title: PhD students in machine learning for image generation
The research area for the advertised positions lies in the intersection of machine learning, deep learning, computer graphics and computer vision. The goal is to create synthetic image data with combinations of computer graphics and generative deep learning. The generated images will be used as training data in machine learning applications, for improving performance and robustness, or as a tool for anonymizing sensitive images. The developed methods will be tested in various applications, e.g. for medical imaging diagnostics. The project includes both basic research on the development of new image generation methods, as well as applied research to show the benefits of the new methods.

PhD position summary/title: Ph D position in Business Administration
The Doctoral candidate will participate in the research project “Managing cyber-attacks – The construction and organization of corporate digital responsibility in Swedish companies” (CODIRES) funded by the Swedish Research Council Vetenskåpsrådet. In CODIRES, we want to understand the social construction and organisation of corporate responsibility of digitally active companies and view organisations as creators of digital responsibility. This theoretical shift is important to us in order to understand how organisations can learn from the (un)intended consequences of digital (non-)responsibility and develop a proactive attitude towards digital demands. In CODIRES, we apply mix methods which combines expert interviews about cyber-accidents, a qualitative multi-case study with quantitative data from a survey among digitally active companies in Sweden.

Research, development, and design of ultralow-power fully integrated wireless data transmitter/receiver and wireless energy harvesting. The goal is to create state-of-the-art technical platform for design of smart self-powered wireless sensors for a broad range of IoT applications, with special focus on medical implant devices. The project is expected to generate highly innovative circuits and systems solutions to be designed in advanced CMOS and possibly other semiconductor technologies, measured, verified, demonstrated, and published in top international journals and conferences in the field.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Product Realization with specialization in Industrial Digitalization
As a doctoral student, you devote most of your time to doctoral studies and the research projects of which you are part. Your work may also include teaching or other departmental duties, up to a maximum of 20% of full-time. The research conducted within the department takes place mainly in the field of industrial automation. The research projects are in line with the increasing trend of digitalisation in industry and have a focus on flexible and reconfigurable production systems. PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Sustainable systems, specialized in environmental management and engineering
Biogas systems deliver biogas/biomethane, biofertilizers and additional products/services based on different types of biomasses, commonly in the form of waste and byproduct streams. There is a significant potential to expand the production, both in Sweden and internationally. Biogas solutions are commonly cross-sectoral, involving several types of private and public actors, and various activities. Further on, they can be multifunctional, contributing to addressing several sustainability problems in parallel. Thus, biogas solutions may constitute role models for the circular society, and they are especially important in the development of a bioeconomy.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Joint Sensor Fusion and Machine Learning for Autonomous Systems
Project description: Methods for distributed learning of augmented state-space models will be researched. This class of models enables domain knowledge to be incorporated in the learning process to guarantee a minimum of performance and enable an efficient learning process; still, they are flexible enough to permit learning of partially unknown model dynamics and inputs. Thus, the targeted methods are foreseen to play an important role in realizing large-scale sensing systems. Focus of the research will be on learning of state-space models augmented with sparse Gaussian process models. To enable distributed and efficient learning of the models, techniques for distributed Gaussian process regression, such as Bayesian commit machines and inner product quantization, will be integrated with distributed filter algorithms, such as covariance intersection, consensus, and diffusion Kalman filters. The use of information-gain based active learning strategies to streamline the learning process, both on local and global scale, will be investigated.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Applied Physics with focus on plant based biohybrid living materials
The PhD student will develop biohybrid materials based on plant cells with living characteristics such as growth, responsiveness, and evolution. The PhD student will be responsible for culturing plant cells, charactering their growth and properties and functionalizing them with technological materials. The biohybrid materials will then be developed via additive manufacturing techniques including bioprinting and their electrical, mechanical and evolving properties will be characterized. The research has interdisciplinary character including material-device characterization and plant biology. The PhD student will work closely with collaborators specialized in plant biology.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student within Energy systems for project AI method for river regulation
Hydropower is an important electricity production resource in the Swedish electricity system, and efficient river regulation is necessary to utilize its full potential. Efficient management of the future electricity supply in Sweden can be achieved with the help of digitalization and automation. As a PhD student, you will be part of a project that focuses on challenges and opportunities with digitalization and automation of hydropower. As a PhD student, you will develop and design an AI method for river regulation, which can be used as a basis for decisions by companies that operate hydropower plants. Also, the work includes database management of historical and future data that is relevant to the operation of hydropower plants. The developed AI method, in combination with a developed database, will also be used during the work as a PhD student for analysis of a delimited part of a real watercourse.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Medical Science
The doctoral project involves studies of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), two intestinal diseases with an incompletely understood pathophysiology. In focus for the project are the enteric glial cells (EGC), forming an extensive network within the enteric nervous system. Recent reports confirm their involvement in the regulation of motility, immune activation, and intestinal barrier integrity, though the knowledge of EGC in IBS and IBD is limited. The overall aim of the planned doctorial project will be to clarify the neuro-immune interactions of the EGC during intestinal disease. The project will involve the relations of EGC to immune cells, neurons, and bacteria, and involvement in intestinal barrier function. Methods included for the project involves immunohistochemical methods, different types of microscopies, isolation of human cells, cell culture, and ELISA and PCR techniques. Parts of the project will also involve studies of brain-gut interactions, where intestinal findings will be correlated to brain findings, achieved by functional and structural brain imaging. The overall hypothesis is that the EGC and their interactions are of importance for IBS and IBD pathophysiology. This project combines pre-clinical hypotheses with clinical findings and has the potential to lead to a better understanding of the role for EGC during intestinal disease which potentially can lead to better treatment for patients suffering from IBS or IBD.

PhD position summary/title: PhD student in Medical Science
The doctoral project aims to identify risks and facilitating factors related to education for students with developmental language disorder (DLD). Using these results as a point of departure, support and interventions for students with DLD will be designed and evaluated. The project will thereby contribute to increased knowledge regarding improved education for students with DLD. The doctoral project includes two parts; one part that explores needs, challenges, and well-functioning practices in education, and one intervention part where support for students with DLD is designed and evaluated. The doctoral project includes both qualitative and quantitative methods.

The research focus for the advertised position is directed towards developing machine learning techniques for human motion and dynamics capture. Our aim is to reconstruct 3D models of humans from images and analyze their motion in terms of quality, healthiness, and efficiency by employing and developing modern machine learning techniques in combination with physical simulations. PhD position summary/title: PhD positions in Hardware for Machine Learning at the Edge within WASP Graduate School
The research focus for the advertised positions is directed towards hardware design and algorithms for deploying and training complex neural network models at the edge. We aim at creating energy proportional hardware that adapts the computation to the complexity of the data and that is capable of tracking changes in the data properties and tune the model parameter to these changes. One PhD position focuses on heavily quantized neural networks combined with early-exit strategies and a second position on embedded training with multiple precision hardware extended via dynamic function exchange. Application areas include object detection and classification, natural language processing and fault diagnosis.
