Dr. Li is the Chair of the Faculty’s Nanomedicine and Chemical Biology Research Theme as well as the Training Program. He is one of the research leaders at the Nanomedicine Innovation Network (NMIN), a National Centre of Excellence co-funded by the Government of Canada and industry, focusing on clinical translation and commercialization of nanomedicines (https://www.nanomedicines.ca/). Trainees in the Li lab are exposed to a rich and unique training environment, ranging from chemistry, pharmaceutics, drug formulation, nanoparticle engineering, drug development, animal study, to entrepreneurship. The School of Kinesiology in the Faculty of Education at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Exercise, Nutrition and Metabolism. The successful Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) candidate will join a dynamic and multidisciplinary team under the supervision of Dr. David Wright. The Wright Lab examines the effects of exercise, nutrition and pharmaceutical approaches on adipose tissue and liver metabolism, the underlying mechanisms therein and how alterations in these tissues impact whole body glucose and lipid homeostasis. The position is for a post-doctoral researcher who will be involved in developing an in vitro model of the injured spinal cord. Experiments will assess the biocompatibility of different materials, and measure the growth of neural cells in different biomaterials, for the purposes of maximizing the aligned, long-distance growth and viability of neurons. The overarching goal of our laboratory is to understand the control of stem cells in development and diseases. Our research group is focused on uncovering novel mechanisms of post-transcriptional and translational regulation during normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The highly competitive research plan encompasses of several largely supported projects involving the use of human and mouse models, primary patient samples of hematologic malignancies and cutting-edge technologies. By using animal models and genomic approaches for identification of novel translational regulators in leukemia (Vu et al. Nat Gen 2017, Vu et al. Nat Med 2017), the Vu lab investigates novel molecular mechanisms underpinning leukemogenesis and control of hematopoietic stem cells. Research in the Velenosi lab is focused at the intersection of pharmacology and metabolomics, studying metabolic biomarkers of drug response and characterizing therapeutic targets to improve cancer therapy. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW – VIRAL EVOLUTION OF COVID-19

The postdoctoral research fellow will be involved in high-throughput biophysical assays to test the viability of candidate molecular therapeutics, pseudotyping assays to study viral evolution, and potentially BSL-3 studies of CoV-2 infection. The project involves characterising the composition and structure of pea proteins using LC-MS/MS and other biophysical tools, in order to understand how protein structural changes contribute to quality attributes of pea protein used in food. The effects of different varieties, protein extraction and fractionation conditions, and further processing steps will be examined. This project involves a planned collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), subject to approval by the NRC. The NRC researchers will perform complementary functionality testing.
