(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc in Human Energy Expenditure in Transport Behaviour Modelling – DTU Management

We are seeking an ambitious candidate to join our research team as a Postdoctoral researcher. You will play a key role in a cutting-edge research project, “Human energy expenditure in mobility”, focused on understanding and modelling cycling behaviour with a unique emphasis on human energy considerations. As part of your role, you will be responsible for developing choice models to describe how energy expenditure influences behaviour.

Human energy expenditure is a fundamental characteristic of cycling – cyclists mustspend energy pedalling to make the bicycle move. Very little research has however been put into developing network and behavioural models that take the unique aspects of human energy expenditure into account. To address this gap, the research project will formulate a novel modelling paradigm that directly incorporates energy considerations into the modelling framework. This will involve the development of a network model to describe individual-specific energy usage and corresponding route choice models to capture cyclist behaviour. We will utilise these new insights in various ways to explore the potential to improve public health and increase active mobility.

Do you want to be the first person to develop an entirely new class of inorganic semiconductors for solar cells and optoelectronics in general? Then you have come to the right place. We are a hybrid experimental/computational team supported by ERC Starting Grant “IDOL”. Your mission will be to craft thin-film materials from the most exotic corners of the periodic table using vacuum-based techniques. Your workhorse will be an absolutely world-unique suite of thin-film deposition and processing setups heavily customized for exploratory materials research. This includes the “big three” techniques (sputtering, evaporation, and CVD) with access to 5 reactive gases for anion incorporation and retention from 150 K to 1400 K temperature, and from 1E-7 mbar to atmospheric pressure. All tools are glovebox-integrated and set up for high-throughput deposition of combinatorial libraries. Your main focus will be on metal phosphosulfides, but we are set up for any combination of sulfur, selenium, phosphorus, nitrogen, and oxygen on the anion side. On the metal side, anything up to Bi is possible with various degrees of effort, including alkali metals. The lab is located in Denmark’s national facility for semiconductor fabrication, with very high safety standards. The choice of materials to synthesize is influenced by our internal computational screening work. Computational methods are also used to support interpretation of experimental findings. All experimental and computational results (positive and negative) are fed into a common database linked to the central NOMAD database for public availability and machine learning purposes.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in manufacturing the next generation of solid oxide electrolysis cells – DTU Energy

If you are planning to establish your career as a materials scientist with particular attention towards electrochemical energy conversion devices and looking for best possible platforms to fulfil your goal, DTU Energy is offering two postdoctoral positions in the fabrication of the next generation of solid oxide cells. The positions are a part of our broad project portfolio in the areas of development and upscaling of i) metal-supported solid oxide cell and ii) proton-conducting ceramic cell technology.

The removal of fossil fuels in the energy and transport sector is an important ambition, seconded by specific targets in several parts of the world. In this context, shares of electricity production from wind and solar are increasing. The fluctuating and interruptive nature of these sources requires means of storage and “difficult-to-electrify” sectors like shipping and aviation need green fuels. Solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) technologies owing to their high efficiencies can solve this challenge by converting excess electricity into storable compounds such as hydrogen and high energy density transportation fuels. Conventional SOE has reached a matureness allowing for demonstration and field-testing, based on electrolyte- or fuel-electrode-supported configurations.

How to increase Brain Power – Secrets of Brain Unlocked

(20) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdocs: Investigating New Parameter Space with Water and CO2 Electrolysis via Non-Ambient Temperature and Non-Aqueous Solvents – DTU Physics

Both water electrolysis to hydrogen and CO2/CO electrolysis to hydrocarbons provide sustainable energy derived building blocks for the chemicals industry, however research in this field has primarily focused on operating at room temperature and purely aqueous solvents. While gains have been made in this domain, the limited parameter space has restricted both fundamental knowledge and the ability to create new areas of development.

This project will consist of multiple postdocs focusing on various aspects of expanding this space.  In particular, one position will focus on water and CO electrolysis at elevated temperatures to analyze both catalyst stability and whether the elevated temperature changes the reactant-catalyst binding strength, thus entailing either a different catalyst is optimal or a change in selectivity. With respect to CO electrolysis in particular, the work will focus on shifting selectivity towards ethanol, and being able to remove this from the reactor without oxidation.  Another position will also analyze CO2 and CO electrolysis, however temperatures substantially below room temperature to see the effect on activity and selectivity, thus giving greater understanding to the reactions as a whole.
