(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc on Ultra-high resolution MRI of food soft matter
We invite applications for a post-doctoral position of 1 year, with possibility of extension to 2 years depending on performance, based at the Laboratory of Biophysics at Wageningen University (WU). The work is in close collaboration with partners within the Dutch NMR consortium (uNMR-NL), including Utrecht University (UU) and the University Medical Center (UMC) of Utrecht. The focus of this position is on the implementation and validation of microimaging methods at high-/ultra-high-field NMR spectrometers (14-28 T), to boost sensitivity, spatial and chemical resolution in studies of small-volume biological and food soft materials. The goal of this collaborative project is to achieve multi-scale structural information including cellular scale, not accessible at lower/intermediate magnetic fields, to ultimately aid more sensitive characterization of structure and dynamics in a range of biologically-relevant materials in soft matter and food science.
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc Soil Health in Tropical Agroecosystems (postdoctoral)
We seek to strengthen our team with an outstanding postdoctoral researcher with strong expertise in soil health assessment and knowledge of tropical soils and agroecosystems. Understanding and improving soil health across cropping systems and regions in the global south is a key focus for achieving sustainability goals, including food security, food safety, greenhouse gas mitigation and climate adaptation. Soil health is a complex, abstract concept that cannot be measured directly. It requires indicator frameworks and methods that can be used to assess and interpret (changes in) multiple soil functions, like nutrient cycling, water regulation, carbon stabilization, disease and pest control and contaminant mitigation. However, the applicability of such indicators at scale, their interpretation in terms of soil functions, and their adaptation to different cropping systems and contexts remains a challenge. In particular, soil biodiversity and soil organic matter play a fundamental role in many soil processes underpinning soil health. Yet, our ability to assess and interpret (early) indicators of soil biodiversity and soil organic matter dynamics are limited. Finally, the linkages between soil health and other agronomic (e.g., crop yields, fertilizer use efficiency) and environmental goals (e.g., greenhouse gas emissions, climate resilience) are often assumed but lack scientific scrutiny.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in ‘Confined multiphase multicomponent evaporation’
The experimental system will comprise of a suspension of particles (axisymmetric/non-axisymmetric, passive/active, flexible/rigid, monodisperse/polydisperse) in a multicomponent dispersing liquid. You will use state-of-the-art imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy and particle tracking velocimetry. The work will be complemented by theoretical and/or numerical modeling. A part of your work is also affiliated with an academic-industrial collaboration and provides the opportunity to study interesting, complex physics, and solve real world problems.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Data processing for open global environmental monitoring
Are you a researcher skilled in software development and motivated in making Earth Observation data more accessible and impactful? Are you interested in working in a cutting-edge international consortium and research how different Earth Observation data clusters can interoperate? Then we are looking for you!
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will work on developing a backend for processing of global scale Earth Observation data within the novel Open Earth Monitor initiative. Your work is a key component for Open Earth Monitor to accelerate the uptake of environmental information to guide current and future users in research, decision making and citizens towards the most sustainable solutions.
