Motivated applicants are invited to apply for an MRC-funded full-time postdoctoral research position within the Humphrey lab at the Genome Damage and Stability Centre, University of Sussex. Chromatin modifiers are frequently mutated in a broad spectrum of cancers, identifying them as important cancer targets. Using a powerful combination of molecular genetics, immunohistochemistry and bioinformatics we are exploring how the DNA damage response can be exploited to target chromatin-modification defects associated with particular cancer types. The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and as part of a team; to have regular meetings with their supervisor; to discuss their work at regular lab meetings; to present their work nationally/ internationally, and to publish their results in a timely manner.         

We are looking for a motivated post-doctoral researcher to assess potential zoonotic disease transmission pathways between bats humans. As part of an international consortium – OneBAT-funded by Horizon Europe https://onebat.eu you will collaborate with researchers across Europe.  

Using a One Health approach, the OneBat consortium investigates the steps that could lead to viral transmission. The Sussex team is particularly interested in bat ecology, cat-bat-human interactions, and the epidemiology of viruses in bat populations and spill-overs into other hosts.

You will need to have strong numeric skills for this post, with experience in techniques such as species distribution modelling and statistical analyses in R. In addition you will need to conduct field research and conduct surveys involving members of the public and veterinarians.

One key  objective of the research is to investigate potentially risky interactions between bats and cats or humans, using techniques including distribution overlap maps, questionnaire surveys of bat rehabilitation centres, camera trapping and DNA-based assessment of cat-bat interactions. 

We are looking for a post-doctoral research fellow with a strong machine learning background to work with Profs Luc Berthouze and George Parisis on one of 77 adventurous new projects recently funded by the EPSRC under the New Horizons initiative to explore high-risk speculative research ideas across Engineering and ICT. 

Our project aims to transform the way ICT networks are being conceptualised for management, by developing a data-driven (e.g., temporal network based) characterisation of emerging dependencies between ICT components and allowing to characterise and act upon the functional impact of complex and changing interactions across layers and processes. 

The primary aim will be to develop and implement methods for inferring time-varying latent inter-dependencies based on events emitted, processed and stored in modern network and service deployments. Conceptual challenges to be met include the presence of multiple time scales as well as hierarchical organisation. 

A secondary aim is to disambiguate hypothetical causal structures from the above statistical dependencies, with the view to provide interpretable and actionable insights. Use-case scenarios considered will be failure prediction and root-cause-analysis.

As the research fellow attached to the state capture theme, you will help to design and carry out high-quality research (both desk-based and fieldwork) in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI) Liz Dávid-Barrett. You will also collaborate with external practitioners to ensure that the project is designed and implemented with maximum potential for effective sharing and impact.

We wish to appoint a Research Assistant or Research Fellow to work on the molecular mechanisms of transcriptional reprogramming by the nuclear antigens encoded by the cancer-associated Epstein Barr Virus. 

You will join the friendly and dedicated team of Prof Michelle West in the Biochemistry and Biomedicine Department in the School of Life Sciences. You will work alongside other experienced team members and use molecular and gene targeting techniques to study long-range gene expression control by Epstein-Barr Virus nuclear antigens EBNA 3A, 3B and 3C in B cells. Experience of molecular biology, cell culture and knowledge of transcription control is desirable.

Applications are invited for the position of a Research Fellow in Trapped Ion Quantum Computing in the Ion Quantum Technology Group in the Sussex Centre for Quantum Technologies at the University of Sussex. The position is part of the UK National Quantum Technologies programme and is concerned with the development of utility scale quantum computers capable of solving disruptive societal and industry challenges.

Trapped ions are one of the most mature implementations to deliver practical quantum technologies. We have developed a unique approach for trapped-ion quantum computing that enables scaling to a large number of qubits. The approach couples scalable global microwave based quantum gate technology with fully integrated quantum computing microchip modules that can be linked together using fast electric field links.
