Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  

A full-time employment opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Maria Clara Franco at the Center of Translational Science (https://cts.fiu.edu/people/maria-clara-franco/) located in the beautiful Treasure Coast region of Florida in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. We are a vibrant, diverse, and collaborative research group working on multiple projects studying the role of redox signaling in disorders of the nervous system, with a focus on tumor development and neurodegeneration. Topics studied in the lab include protein structure and function, cell signaling and metabolic pathways, animal models of disease, and drug screenings. The appointee will work on a cutting-edge project involving the identification of novel oxidized proteins that regulate tumor cell proliferation and migration. Our goal is to exploit these targets for the development of tumor-directed therapeutic approaches. Dr. Franco is a trained mentor who strives to advance the career of her trainees. The position will be renewed on a yearly basis.

The Center for Translational Science at FIU located in Port St. Lucie, Florida is currently recruiting 2 Postdoctoral Associate positions to study neurodegenerative diseases using genetically engineered rats as relevant models for motoneuron disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinsons disease. Candidates who have received adequate training on molecular biology, neuropathology, or mouse genetics are invited to apply. (06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to support a three-year effort to advance collaborative research and conservation of transboundary social-ecological freshwater systems in the Western Amazon (Brazil, Peru and Colombia). The Research Associate will work with an interdisciplinary team that includes Drs. Elizabeth Anderson, Simone Athayde, Clinton Jenkins, and Paulo Olivas at Florida International University. They will support efforts on four integrated project themes concerning linked human, freshwater and forest systems in the Western Amazon: (1) habitat change, (2) governance, (3) biocultural mapping, and (4) participatory visioning. The project will use a co-production approach and involve extensive engagement with partner organizations and stakeholders that are based and/or conduct work in the Amazon Basin.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 

An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Adel Nefzi at the Florida International University, Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The projects will involve medicinal chemistry, development of structure activity relationships and assessment of activity in a range of assays.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. with less than two years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrated experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry with emphasis on peptide chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and an ability to work independently. A background in medicinal or biological chemistry and drug discovery with experience of parallel synthesis and purification methods is required. Some experience in molecular modeling and/or protein-inhibitor visualization is a plus. The incumbent must be able to synthesize, purify, crystallize, optically resolve, identify, characterize and analyze new compounds (HRMS, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HPLC, optical rotation) and search the chemical literature under the supervision of senior staff”.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 

The Community-Based Research Institute (CBRI) at Florida International University has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to join our growing team. As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will primarily work on a new study funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIHMD) as part of FIU’s Research Center in Minority Institutions (FIU-RCMI). The Postdoctoral Associate will assist with analyzing and interpreting data from the R01-equivalent RCMI study “Addressing community-level influences of HIV and COVID-19 disparities among people with HIV.” The study will assess the contribution of community factors on HIV and COVID-19 disparities among people with HIV in Florida. The study will use HIV and COVID-19 statewide surveillance longitudinal data to model potential increases in disparities over time among minority populations. The position has funding for a minimum of 4 years (2023-2027) with annual renewal contingent upon performance. The selected candidate will prepare research publications and presentations as the first author and contribute to other publications and presentations as a co-author. They will also write annual reports and meet project deadlines with the flexibility to develop/design important components of our study and will have flexibility in leading authorship on multiple manuscripts. You will be joining a close-knit, vibrant team of social epidemiologists committed to addressing health disparities. You will be actively mentored and will work with your mentors to develop a tailored career development plan aimed at achieving your short-and-long term career goals.  You will benefit from the resources of CBRI and RCMI as well as those from the College and will be provided opportunities to attend research conferences.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 

This is a one-year post-doctoral fellowship, with the possibility of a second year contingent on funding and satisfactory productivity. Postdoctoral fellows will further their research and training agendas through formal mentorship and coursework, seminars, conferences, and other career development activities. Each fellow will have a primary mentor assisted by other mentors in a team approach. They will work with established investigators on research projects and be expected to prepare and submit manuscripts for publication, present at local and national conferences, and develop and submit at least one grant proposal by the end of the fellowship term. Fellows will be trained in community-based participatory research methods and population health science. The primary responsibilities will be related to the NIMHD-funded “Microbiome profiles, sleep, and cognition among mid-life Latinx adults” study. This five-year R01-equivalent study is part of the FIU-RCMI – Research Center in Minority Institutions. The post-doctoral fellow will engage with participants and mentees using evidence-based data collection methods and produce scientific evidence with the ultimate goal of increasing health equity related to sleep and cognition, including their behavioral risk factors.
