(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Senior research engineer (equivalent to Senior Postdoc) in evolutionary biology

For this position we are looking for a candidate with a strong background in evolutionary genetics, quantitative genetics and/or bioinformatics. The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers investigating the genomic basis of feralization and domestication. The project explores the molecular mechanisms underlying evolutionary transitions from domestication to re-wilding (feralisation) using a series of feral chickens derived from Hawaii and Bermuda, and intercrosses of wild and domestic chickens. Using a powerful combination of genomics, transcriptomics, field assays and laboratory experimental evolution the project aims to reveal the genes and causal polymorphisms responsible for re-adaptation to a wild environment, and how this progresses.

This position is part of the “Operationalizing Ethics for AI: Implementation, translation and accountability challenges” project ( https://liu.se/en/research/operationlising-ethics-for-ai ) which is funded by the research program The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanities and Society (WASP-HS: https://wasp-hs.org/ ).

“Operationalizing Ethics for AI” is an interdisciplinary project bringing together critical feminist and computer science perspectives. This postdoc project will engage an intersectional perspective on synthetic data for algorithm development with a theoretical base in feminist technoscience studies, critical studies of AI, HCI, design, and data science. It will critically interrogate synthetic data as an object (to be, for example, regulated and discussed by industry and policy) and as a process (of creating a representation of the world used for a range of technical goals). The work will be conducted in close collaboration with The Bodies Hub at Tema Genus.

(15) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Organic Synthesis of Polyaromatic Macroheterocycle

Organic luminescent radicals (OLRs) are quite rare emitters demonstrating doublet-doublet fluorescence and having a number of advantages towards practical applications in organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), ratiometric fluorescence sensors and anti-counterfeiting labelling. The doublet-doublet fluorescence by OLRs is a spin-allowed process similar to the common singlet-singlet fluorescence. However, in contrast to closed-shell molecules for which “bright” excited singlet states are higher in energy than “dark” triplet states, the doublet excited states of OLRs are always lower in energy than the quartet states. That is why the theoretical limit for internal quantum efficiency of OLR-based OLEDs is expected to be 100%. This research project focuses on rational design and synthesis of polyaromatic macroheterocycles called hetero[8]circulenes as precursors for novel class of OLRs. Among expected advantages of hetero[8]circulene-based OLRs there are colour tunability (incl. blue emission), high chemicals, thermal and electrical stability, sustainability of reagents and low cost price.
